While under a state of hypnosis, there is a different perception of time. Time can often feel as if it has disappeared under hypnosis. Hypnosis stage shows last about 60 minutes and the subjects on stage are normally under hypnosis for about 50 minutes. Before the end of the show, if you ask a person who has been hypnotized on stage, “How long have you been up here? How much time has gone by?” Their answer is mostly about two minutes. The hypnotic subject will often say, “I just got up here.” The person will think they just got on stage. The hypnotist will even ask the question, are you ready to get the show started? Their response will be, “Yes, let’s start the show.” Even though the subjects have been on stage for 50 minutes, they feel as if it is only a couple of minutes. A deep hypnotic state achieved during a hypnosis show is very similar to the time that goes by while we nap or sleep.
